Whether you’ve had a happy surprise, you’ve longed for this moment for a very long time or perhaps everything has just gone exactly to plan – congratulations on your pregnancy. What your body goes through to bring your new baby into this world is absolutely incredible – although, admittedly, it doesn’t always feel that great at the time. My maternity photoshoots are all about taking some time out for you, before your focus shifts almost entirely onto this new little person in your life. Be proud of your body. Celebrate the amazing transformation you are going through to grow your family. And treasure this time. Because, soon, those first flutters of movement, the hiccups and that precious feeling of life growing inside your body will become distant memories.
Please don’t be put off if you get nervous in front of the camera. I’m great at putting women at ease during these sessions and every pose we do (yes, we – I get involved too!) and outfit you put on is designed to make you look and feel at your best.
The full Moments by Katie Mitchell photography experience with your photographs available for you in both digital format and print. These sessions are ideal for those wanting their partners or children to get involved.

Yes! If you fancy making your maternity photoshoot that little bit more special, you can get your hair and make-up professionally done right here in my studio before your session. I work closely with the lovely Gemma Hull who specialises in gorgeous natural make-up and ‘wow’ hairstyles that will make you look and feel amazing. To see some of Gemma’s work, head on over to her website Gemma Hull Hair and Make-Up. Full hair and make-up costs just £65 and may be included as part of your deposit (but will not be refundable).
Certainly! Although my maternity minis are all about mum, you’re more than welcome to include the rest of the family during the full maternity photo sessions.
The first thing to do is get in touch! Send me a message via my contact form and I’ll get back to you at a time that suits you. We’ll have a quick chat so that I can find out a bit more about you and the style of photographs that you’re drawn to, so that I can tailor your session accordingly. I know it can take courage to book a photoshoot where all the focus is on you so this consultation is also a great opportunity for you to get a feel for who I am and hopefully relax a little about what’s to come.
Providing you’re happy to go forwards, I’ll follow up our call with details of how to pay your £100 deposit, as well as a standard contract that explains all the relevant terms and conditions. Please note that your booking will not be confirmed until your deposit has been paid and the contract signed. After booking, you will receive a confirmation email and a reminder closer to your appointment time.
As your photoshoot draws to a close, we’ll arrange a convenient date and time for you to return to the studio for your view and order session. I don’t like to keep clients waiting too long, so I normally aim to get you back within a couple of weeks of your photo session.
If you can’t wait that long, you’ll be offered the opportunity of a sneak peek of one of your photographs on Facebook the evening of your photoshoot. Please note that I need your consent to use your images in this manner, so if you have not already opted into this within your contract, you may be asked to complete a model release form.
At your view and order appointment, you’ll be shown a beautiful, customised slideshow of all of your photographs. You’ll be reminded of the packages available and shown the art of the possible when it comes to wall art. And then it’s up to you to choose how you’d like to proceed. There’s never any pressure and, of course, if you aren’t happy with your photographs, I will happily refund your deposit. I can happily report that 100% of my clients have loved their photographs!
Orders must be made at the view and order session so please make sure all decision makers can attend. I accept cash or debit card and can also offer payment plans if necessary.
I am passionate about helping families across Gloucestershire to celebrate family life but I know that not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to afford a luxury such as professional photography to help them do this. From an early stage in my business, I decided that I would do my bit to support those who can’t, so I chose to donate a portion of all standard packages sold to two charities in Gloucestershire that resonated with my values, Gloucestershire Bundles and The Family Haven.
You can find out a little more about this here.
A £100 deposit is payable for all photo sessions to secure your booking. This is then used as a credit towards whichever package or products you would like to buy. The deposit is non-refundable in the event of a no-show.
After the formalities of booking are over and done with, you’ll get an email confirming everything you need to know about your maternity photo session. You’ll be invited to my home studio (soon to be garden studio – eek!) in Gloucester where your session will last between 30 to 90 minutes.
You’ll likely feel nervous when you arrive, but honestly, we’ll soon be having a laugh (at my expense probably) and you’ll start to feel at ease. I’ve got a selection of outfits available to make you look and feel at your best… and if you’re feeling brave towards the end of the session, we could try some nude silhouettes too because they really do make a beautiful piece of art. You don’t have to do anything that you feel uncomfortable with. And if you want to bring a chaperone, that’s absolutely fine. Extra helpers are always handy!
At the end of your photo session, we’ll arrange the best time for you to come back for your in-person photo viewing and order session. We’ll normally aim for about two weeks later – I don’t want to keep you hanging for too long! If you’re up for it, you’ll get the option of a sneak peek on Facebook that very evening.

The best time for a maternity photoshoot depends on the individual, but around 32-34 weeks pregnant is probably a good guide. At that point you’ll probably have a sizeable bump but aren’t yet too uncomfortable.
I’d love to! But I will never show your photographs to anyone without your consent. When you sign your portrait photography contract, you’ll be asked permission to use photographs from your session for marketing purposes. I know that some people feel uneasy about this until they’ve seen their images and that’s fine. You’re welcome to make up your mind at your view and order session and, if you’re happy for me to share your beautiful images with the world, I’ll simply fill ask you to fill in a model release consent form. And of course, if you’d prefer they stayed private, then that’s absolutely fine as well.
I wrote a blog post which goes into a little more detail about this here.
