My maternity photoshoots are all about capturing the beauty of pregnancy. Yes, those of us who’ve been through it may argue that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be (Morning sickness? How about all day sickness?!) but I think we would all agree that what a woman’s body can do is truly incredible. I absolutely love to photograph this special time in a woman’s life before her world changes forever.

I LOVE maternity photography and I’m on a mission to help women celebrate pregnancy. So let’s forget how crap you feel and how puffy your ankles are and let’s discover that glow that people always talk about! If you’re feeling nervous, please don’t worry! I’m great at putting women at ease during these sessions and every pose we do (yes, we – I get involved too!) is designed to make you look at your best! If you’re not sure, take a look at what some of my clients said about their maternity sessions below.
The best time for a maternity photoshoot depends on the individual, but around 32-34 weeks pregnant is probably a good guide. At that point you’ll probably have a sizeable bump but aren’t yet too uncomfortable.
After the formalities of booking are over and done with, you’ll get an email confirming everything you need to know about your maternity photo session. You’ll be invited to my home studio (soon to be garden studio – eek!) in Gloucester where your session will last between 30 to 90 minutes.
You’ll likely feel nervous when you arrive, but honestly, we’ll soon be having a laugh (at my expense probably) and you’ll start to feel at ease. I’ve got a selection of outfits available to make you look and feel at your best… and if you’re feeling brave towards the end of the session, we could try some nude silhouettes too because they really do make a beautiful piece of art. You don’t have to do anything that you feel uncomfortable with. And if you want to bring a chaperone, that’s absolutely fine. Extra helpers are always handy!
At the end of your photo session, we’ll arrange the best time for you to come back for your in-person photo viewing and order session. We’ll normally aim for about two weeks later – I don’t want to keep you hanging for too long! If you’re up for it, you’ll get the option of a sneak peek on Facebook that very evening.

My maternity packages are arranged a little differently to the rest of my portrait sessions; I offer one full maternity package and an alternative mini session. I find that, a lot of the time, women don’t want to spend much money on themselves right before their new baby arrives. Because of this, I now offer a shorter mini session for women who want to celebrate their pregnancy but don’t need all the added extras included in the full package.
Unlike many photographers, I don’t charge a session fee for my time; you only pay for the package and/or products that you want to buy. I do ask for a £100 deposit to secure your booking BUT this will be used as a credit towards your final order.
In the unlikely event that you come along to your photo viewing and find that you don’t like any of your photographs, then you are under no obligation to buy and your deposit will be fully refunded to you.
Most people choose one of my packages, however bespoke orders are possible and are subject to a minimum spend of £299.
Your deposit is non-refundable in the event of a no-show.
The full Moments by Katie Mitchell photography experience with your photographs available for you in both digital format and print. These sessions are ideal for those wanting their partners or children to get involved.
(Mini sessions are payable in full on booking)
How about something completely different? Celebrate the incredible transformation your body will go through during your pregnancy with a collage that’s completely unique to you.
A £100 deposit is required for your first session. 50% of the balance will be due at the five month mark, with the outstanding balance due on completion. I understand that pregnancy can be a worrying time; I promise complete discretion and sensitivity to the pressures and worries of pregnancy.
Yes! If you fancy making your maternity photoshoot that little bit more special, you can get your hair and make-up professionally done right here in my studio before your session. I work closely with the lovely Gemma Hull who specialises in gorgeous natural make-up and ‘wow’ hairstyles that will make you look and feel amazing. To see some of Gemma’s work, head on over to her website Gemma Hull Hair and Make-Up. Full hair and make-up costs just £65 and may be included as part of your deposit (but will not be refundable).
