Maternity Photography in Gloucester

STUDIO AND OUTDOORS

Whether you’ve had a happy surprise, you’ve longed for this moment for a very long time or perhaps everything has just gone exactly to plan – congratulations

on your pregnancy. What your body is going through to bring your new baby into this world is absolutely incredible – although, admittedly, it doesn’t always feel that great at the time.

My maternity photoshoots are all about taking some time out for you, before your focus shifts almost entirely onto this new little person in your life. Celebrate the amazing transformation you are going through to grow your family. And treasure this time. Because, soon, those first flutters of movement, the hiccups and that precious feeling of life growing inside your body will become distant memories. The day will come when you want to remember what this moment looked like, so let me capture it for you now with the perfect keepsake – because you can’t turn back the clock.

Please don’t be put off if you get nervous in front of the camera. I’m great at putting women at ease during these sessions and every pose we do (yes, we – I get involved too!) and outfit you put on is designed to make you look and feel at your best.

Here’s what some of my clients had to say about their maternity photoshoots

I would whole heartedly recommend a maternity shoot with Moments by Katie Mitchell, you will not be disappointed with the experience or the amazing product (you will be spoilt for choice, trust me!), and you will have photographs to treasure forever!

Francesca

Although more expensive than other photographers I thought I would go with Katie as the website seemed so professional and also had lots of lovely reviews…. Best decision I made! Katie was so lovely, made me feel so comfortable and confident – I even did some pictures in the nude! It was a great experience. I am so glad I made the decision to have a maternity shoot as I have the most amazing pictures as memories. Thank you!!

Joanna

Having my a maternity shoot as a gift was so scary but Katie made sure I was relaxed and we had such a laugh! I’m not confident in anyway about the way I look, and Katie made me feel beautiful. Thank you Katie for capturing photos that we will treasure forever.

What to expect during your maternity photoshoot

I normally book women in for maternity photoshoots between 32-34 weeks of your pregnancy; that way you’ve got a sizeable bump but hopefully aren’t feeling too uncomfortable.

BEFORE

As soon as you’ve had your 20-week scan, I recommend booking in for your appointment. A £100 deposit is required to secure your booking, which will be credited towards your final order. Once you’re all booked in, we’ll get to the fun part of planning your photoshoot with either an online or in-person consultation.

AFTER

If you’re up for it, you’ll have the option of a social media sneak peek that very evening! Then, a few weeks after your photoshoot, you’ll be invited back to the studio to see your beautiful gallery for the first time. You’ll get to see and touch the unique pieces of wall art on offer and see exactly how they’ll look on the walls of your home. This is when you’ll choose the packages and products you’d like to buy and make your final purchase.

Maternity Photoshoot FAQs

If you would like to understand more about the process, see my frequently asked questions about maternity photography below.

Before your photoshoot

Can I pay for my session in instalments?

Yes! You are more than welcome to pay for your preferred photography package in monthly instalments in the run up to your session. Please let me know if you’d like to take advantage of this when booking your session. Payment plans can also be used to pay for your products after your view and order session, however no photographic products will be received until your invoice is paid in full.

ME/MY PARTNER/MY CHILD ARE POORLY, CAN WE STILL COME FOR OUR APPOINTMENT?

I have to be really careful not to pass on any nasty germs to the small babies that enter my studio so, please get in touch to reschedule. You won’t be charged and it’s much better to be safe rather than sorry.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT FOR?

The best time for a maternity photoshoot depends on the individual, but around 32-34 weeks pregnant is probably a good guide. At that point you’ll probably have a sizeable bump but aren’t yet too uncomfortable.

How do I book?
The first thing to do is get in touch! Send me a message via my contact form and I’ll get back to you at a time that suits you. We’ll have a quick chat so that I can find out a bit more about you and the style of photographs that you’re drawn to, so that I can tailor your session accordingly. I know it can take courage to book a photoshoot where all the focus is on you so this consultation is also a great opportunity for you to get a feel for who I am and hopefully relax a little about what’s to come.

Providing you’re happy to go forwards, I’ll follow up our call with details of how to pay your £100 deposit, as well as a standard contract that explains all the relevant terms and conditions. Please note that your booking will not be confirmed until your deposit has been paid and the contract signed. After booking, you will receive a confirmation email and a reminder closer to your appointment time.

On the day

Where is your studio?

My studio is located at my home in Longlevens, moments off the A40 and M5 motorway, making it ideally situated for clients in Gloucester, Cheltenham and further afield.

Can I have my hair and make-up done?

Yes absolutely! I work with a fabulous hair and make-up artist who specialises in beautiful, natural make-up. Simply let me know you’d like to book when you get in touch.

What should I expect from the session?
After the formalities of booking are over and done with, you’ll get an email confirming everything you need to know about your maternity photo session. You’ll be invited to my purpose-built garden studio in Gloucester where your session will last between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on whether you chose the full maternity session or opted for the shorter mini session.

You’ll likely feel nervous when you arrive, but honestly, we’ll soon be having a laugh (at my expense probably) and you’ll start to feel at ease. I’ve got a selection of outfits available to make you look and feel at your best… and if you’re feeling brave towards the end of the session, we could try some nude silhouettes too because they really do make a beautiful piece of art. You don’t have to do anything that you feel uncomfortable with. And if you want to bring a chaperone, that’s absolutely fine. Extra helpers are always handy!

I’ll aim to have your photographs ready for you in about two weeks but if you don’t want to wait that long, you’ll get the option of a sneak peek on Facebook that very evening. If you booked a full maternity session, you’ll be welcomed back to the studio to view your photographs and take home your beautiful prints and USB. For the mini session, you’ll simply receive a link to an online gallery so you can download your photographs from the comfort of your own home.

If you’d like to read a more detailed account of what it’s like to have a maternity photoshoot with Moments by Katie Mitchell, click here.

Can my partner/other children get involved?
Certainly! Although my maternity minis are all about mum, you’re more than welcome to include the rest of the family during the full maternity photo sessions.

After your photoshoot

When will my photographs be ready?
After your photoshoot, your photographs will be edited to my highest standards before being presented to you. This process typically takes three weeks, however may take a little longer during busy periods. As soon as your photographs are ready, you’ll be invited back for your personal view and order session, where you’ll be able to view your photographs and choose the packages and products that you would like to purchase.

Please note that some mini sessions and event photography packages may not include a personal view and order session; in these cases you will be provided with an online gallery from which to download your photographs.

What happens after my photoshoot?
As your photoshoot draws to a close, we’ll arrange a convenient date and time for you to return to the studio for your view and order session. I don’t like to keep clients waiting too long, so I normally aim to get you back within a couple of weeks of your photo session.

If you can’t wait that long, you’ll be offered the opportunity of a sneak peek of one of your photographs on Facebook the evening of your photoshoot. Please note that I need your consent to use your images in this manner, so if you have not already opted into this within your contract, you may be asked to complete a model release form.

At your view and order appointment, you’ll be shown a beautiful, customised slideshow of all of your photographs. You’ll be reminded of the packages available and shown the art of the possible when it comes to wall art. And then it’s up to you to choose how you’d like to proceed. There’s never any pressure and, of course, if you don’t fall in love with your photographs, I will happily refund your deposit. Thankfully I can report that 100% of my clients have loved their photographs!

Orders are to be made at the view and order session so please make sure all decision makers can attend. I accept cash or debit card and can also offer payment plans if necessary.

Do I have to decide on my final order at the view and order appointment?

Ideally, yes. The purpose of the view and order session is for you to sit back and enjoy your photographs and decide which collection is right for you. Additional view and order appointments may be requested, however a booking fee will apply.

What is the charity donation?
I am passionate about helping families across Gloucestershire to celebrate family life but I know that not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to afford a luxury such as professional photography to help them do this. From an early stage in my business, I decided that I would do my bit to support those who can’t, so I chose to donate a portion of all standard packages sold to three charities in Gloucestershire that resonated with my values, Gloucestershire Bundles, The Family Haven and Footsteps Counselling and Care.
Will you use my images?
I’d love to! But I will never show your photographs to anyone without your consent. When you sign your portrait photography contract, you’ll be asked permission to use photographs from your session for marketing purposes. I know that some people feel uneasy about this until they’ve seen their images and that’s fine. You’re welcome to make up your mind at your view and order session and, if you’re happy for me to share your beautiful images with the world, I’ll simply fill ask you to fill in a model release consent form. And of course, if you’d prefer they stayed private, then that’s absolutely fine as well.

I wrote a blog post which goes into a little more detail about this here.
