Family photography gives you the chance to stop for a moment and celebrate life as a family. It offers the perfect opportunity to take some time out together as a family unit, to enjoy who you are and see how far you’ve come. Whether you’d like more photos to display on your walls at home or a special occasion card to stay in touch with extended family, I’m here to help you enjoy the milestones, big and small.
Hello! My name is Katie and I am the woman behind the camera at Moments by Katie Mitchell. I am a photographer, wife and (my favourite bit of all) mum to a gorgeous little boy who is growing far too fast – like all children do.
Most of my clients start their journey with me when they are pregnant. They’ve seen the beautiful maternity portraits that their friends and family have had and want to have that for themselves. However, a lot of women aren’t that comfortable in front of the camera and find themselves really nervous about coming in for a pregnancy photoshoot where the focus is entirely on them; they worry that they’ll look ridiculous or fat or any of the other usual body consciousness concerns we often have as women.
I’m asking you to believe me when I say that you have nothing to worry about! The number one piece of feedback I get from my maternity clients is that I am great at putting people at ease – closely followed by how much they love their photographs! We’ll spend the session chatting and having a laugh (often at my expense) while I’ll guide you through everything from how to stand, to where to look – even what to think – to help bring out that pregnancy glow we often hear about. I will make you look amazing and you’ll enjoy the experience – I promise!
Motherhood means different things to different people. For me, becoming a mum has really made me. I feel like it has been my calling in life, as cheesy as that sounds. It’s what I was meant to do. But that’s not to say I haven’t found it hard. I have! It’s been filled with anxiety and I’ve found it incredibly stressful – two emotions that I’ve never really dealt with before. I’ve always been really good at handling stressful situations but, somehow, add my own baby into the mix and I’m a mess! I say that… things are much easier now. He’s not a baby anymore. He’s walking, talking and causing havoc and I’m astounded and truly terrified by how fast time has gone since he was born.
This experience has definitely helped to shape me both as a person and someone running a family-orientated business. I know what it feels like to be stressed about my baby not feeding properly, or exhausted because I haven’t had any sleep (PS I can recommend an amazing sleep consultant!). I know the anxiety you can feel handing your baby over to someone who you don’t know. I know what it’s like to have a toddler who won’t sit still for a second so you can catch a breath.
So during your newborn photography session, I will treat your baby with all the love and care I would give my own. I won’t mind when your baby won’t sleep during their photoshoot or your toddler won’t sit still. I have dealt with it all before. If I have a virtue, it’s patience!
I am fully insured, hold a current DBS certificate and have been professionally trained by some of the best photographers in the UK. I am also a member of the Societies of Wedding & Portrait Photographers.
If you book a photoshoot with me, you’ll be welcomed to my new, custom-built photography studio at my home in Longlevens, Gloucester. It’s a large open space with comfy sofas for relaxing in while you enjoy a pre-photoshoot coffee or soft drink and is fully equipped with a variety of backdrops, outfits and props to use during your session. If you’d like to take a look around before booking, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Believe it or not, I spent 17 years serving in the British Army. Although I’m glad that my title is no longer ‘soldier’ but instead ‘photographer’, the military has, and always will be, a big part of my life. Because of this, I am proud to offer serving military personnel and veterans a
I also recognise that the military are not the only people who volunteer to put themselves in harm’s way for the sake of their country, that’s why I also extend this discount to NHS staff and the emergency services.
