The Elephant in the Room About my Pregnancy Collages

It’s time for me to address the elephant in the room when it comes to my pregnancy collages.

During my first pregnancy, I was excited to capture my changing bump. Every two to three weeks I would set my camera up on a tripod, get dressed in the same clothes as before and inevitably take several attempts to get the photo I was after! ? After Oliver was born (plus a few months to regain my time and energy!), I created this collage:

I loved it so much that I couldn’t wait to do it again. I had so many great comments about it that I officially released my pregnancy collages as a service to pregnant clients wanting to document their changing body over the next nine months.

When I became pregnant for myself again, I knew I wanted to create another collage for myself, this time with a much clearer vision of what I wanted to achieve. So shortly after discovering I was pregnant, I went about taking my first photo and mocking up how it would look this time around. I realised that I had a really gorgeous, yet subtle pregnancy announcement on my hands:

A few weeks later, I posted it on social media and was happy to see that the vast majority of friends and family who saw it understood the concept straight away and loved the idea – even if they didn’t all twig that it was me in the photo straight away! As I had anticipated, there were some with reservations: what if something goes wrong? I explained, at the time, that I was proud of my pregnancy and that I would want to remember it irrespective of what happened.

Just 11 days later, I miscarried.

And I still stand by my comments. In fact, I’m incredibly grateful for the photographs that I took during those early weeks. You see, apart from the scan picture that showed two tiny babies with no heartbeat, those photographs are the only positive tangible memory I have of my pregnancy. They remind me of all the excitement of those first few weeks and just how much my body changed in that short space of time. And that is something I never want to forget.

Fantastic experience! I took my family for a shoot with Katie & she was amazing from start to finish. My toddler was a terror and my daughter a diva but some how she worked her magic and we have beautiful digital photos, prints and a lovely big frame for the wall. We had a lovely viewing where we were able to select the photos we wanted, we couldn’t possibly chose from them so we bought them all! 🙂 She made us all feel very welcome and my children and even my husband enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend! I will be back for more photos as my family grow. Thank you Katie
