I am super excited to announce that Moments by Katie Mitchell Photography has been awarded ‘Best Maternity and Newborn Photographer 2023‘ by Luxlife magazine as part of The Perfect Gift Awards 2023.
It’s pretty amazing being recognised for the very sessions where my photography business started: maternity and newborn photography. Have I ever told you that story by the way? When I had my little boy, there was a fire lit in my belly, a passion for family that I’d never experienced before. Suddenly I knew how family was supposed to feel. And so soon after, when I realised I didn’t want to return to life in the Army, I suddenly knew what I wanted to do: to combine my then-hobby of photography with my new-found love of all things pregnancy and babies! Within a few months of undergoing training and getting everything together that I needed, Moments by Katie Mitchell Photography was born!
My journey since then has done nothing but consolidate my belief in how much of a miracle these moments are: from the breathtaking journey of pregnancy to the incredibly precious early days of a newborn’s life. I love that my job is to bottle up that feeling for families to cherish forever.
I think some of the key things that sets me apart from others is my approach to maternity and newborn photography. There’s a huge amount of vulnerabilty and excitement that comes with these life-changing moments and so I want to prioritise creating a comfortable and enjoyable experience for my clients:
- Getting to know each other: I know that a maternity photoshoot can seem like quite a daunting prospect, and that trusting a stranger with your days-old baby is a pretty big deal! That’s why I believe it’s important that we chat before your session so we can get to know each other and answer any questions or concerns you might have about your time in the studio. That way, when it comes to the session itself, you’ll feel that much more relaxed and able to enjoy your experience.
- Personalisation: In the same vain, I want your photos to be a reflection of you and your family. So getting to know you and understanding what makes you tick can really help me to create photographs that capture the essence of each individual and create photos that are not only stunning but deeply personal too.
- Attention to Detail: From choosing the perfect lighting to selecting the most flattering poses and props, I pay meticulous attention to every detail to create photographs that tell a story and evoke emotions (good ones!).
- Safety: Literally the first thing I did when I knew what I wanted to do with my business was to book newborn posing training as safety is the most important part. I want to make sure every baby is cared for with the utmost gentleness and professionalism.
